Tominaga, Scalia, McGlothan take home individual event titles
PHOENIX (April 4, 2024) – The country’s highest flyers and top 3-point shot-makers proved they were the best in the nation at the 2024 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships Thursday night, held in front of captivated crowd at Grand Canyon University and an ESPN national television audience.
Keisei Tominaga of Nebraska, Sara Scalia of Indiana and hometown favorite Gabe McGlothan of Grand Canyon took home individual event championships, while the trio of Oakland’s Jack Gohlke, Francis Marion’s Marlow Gilmore and St. John’s Unique Drake opened the evening by winning the Dave’s Hot Chicken Hot Shot Challenge.
Tominaga turned in three complete efforts to take home the Hanes Originals Soft Touch Men’s 3-Point Championship, finishing with 25 points in the first round and 24 points in the semifinals before defeating Hofstra’s Tyler Thomas, 19-17, in the final.
In the Hanes Originals Soft Touch Women’s 3-Point Championship, Scalia took home the event title, narrowly defeating Missouri’s Hayley Frank, 19-18. Scalia scored 21 points in the first round before advancing to the final via tiebreaker in the semifinals after three players finished with 17 points.
In the Skechers Battle of the Champions, it was an all-Big Ten showdown as Tominaga defeated Scalia, 20-16.
McGlothan turned in one highlight reel dunk after another in the King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship. He scored a perfect 60 in his first-round dunk, then finished the semifinals with the top two-dunk score of 116 to advance to the final. There, he went head-to-head with Eastern Kentucky’s John Ukomadu, where it took a perfect score from McGlothan to earn the win.
